Wayne Chaney has been a firefighter for 29 years. He remembers the old Engine 17. It’s been out of service for seven years.

“When I started it was an open cab so we didn’t have amenities like air conditioning. If it was hot, it was really hot,” said Chaney.

The Long Beach Fire Department takes about 72,000 calls each year. With Engine 17 back the fire chief believes average response times could be cut down by more than a minute.
