PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – A wildfire in Pacific Palisades is now 30 percent contained after burning 45 acres and threatening an estimated 200 nearby homes.
The Los Angeles Fire Department says the fire is 30 percent contained Wednesday morning as crews are took advantage of cooperating winds to expand the containment lines the previous day.
All evacuations orders have now been lifted as of 9 p.m. Monday night. Firefighters said residents can return to their homes, but they should be ready to evacuate again if the fire danger worsens.
A Mandatory Evacuation Box was established for the following areas:
- Charmel Lane to the west
- Bienveneda Avenue to the east
- Merivale Lane to the south
- End of Lachman Lane to the north
An evacuation center was established at the Pacific Palisades Recreation Center at 851 Alma Real Dr. The evacuations were due to the smoke behavior and the retardant being dropped from an aircraft on the fire.
The fire broke out just before 10:40 a.m. at the 500 block of North Palisades Drive on Monday morning. The terrain in the area is reportedly making it difficult for crews to fight the fire.
The City of Los Angeles's Emergency Alert Twitter account says people who live in the area should be aware and prepared to evacuate. Home are being threatened along Vista Grande Drive and Charmel Lane.
So far no structures have been damaged. One female firefighter has been treated for heat exhaustion and is expected to be okay. One civilian was also reportedly injured after suffering respiratory distress.
Smoke from the fire could be clearly seen from Los Angeles International Airport, although airport flight operations are not currently being impacted. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
