LOS ANGELES – Happiness one slice at a time is Sean Brennan’s motto. He’s cutting into an earl gray pie, one of the more unique options at The Pie Hole. It’s a dessert concept with recipes going back five generations.

Brennan says a slice of pie and a cup of coffee is transformative. It makes people happy, but it’s often difficult to make at home, so Pie Hole does it for you.

“It reminds people of their dinner tables, of their own Thanksgiving, of their own grandmother,” Brennan said.

This small pie shop made a name for itself in the dessert world and it all started in Los Angeles, the perfect place to experiment with new food according to Brennan.

“L.A. is a robust foodie community, so it’s the perfect place to be and I can’t imagine being anywhere else,” said Brennan.

And this is why he had to be a part of Dessert Goals, a food festival coming to Los Angeles for two weekends as a celebration of all desserts. Many local brands, like Pie Hole, and national names will be there serving their sweet treats.

“We like to think that the Pie Hole is everyone’s dessert goal so Dessert Goals is a natural fit for us,” says Brennan.

It takes a lot of work to serve thousands over two busy weekends. More pies will be made, with more staff, it will be all hands on deck, but Brennan says they are ready.

“We bake some items ahead of time. We also top and prepare some of the items during the day as guests are coming to us so its fresh and good,” said Brennan.

It’s also during pie season, the busy holiday time between November and January where flavors like pecan and pumpkin are on everyone’s mind.

“We like to call it 'pie-mageddon' around here,” said Brennan.

This is why they will be serving mini versions of the iconic pies and some more modern recipes in their 'Pie Holes,' a take on the name of course.

“They are small pies which are two bites,” says Brennan.

Come November, Dessert Goals will introduce a new audience to many local spots one bite at a time.
