BRENTWOOD, Calif. – Silky, smooth, handmade white chocolate. The Willy Wonka of L.A. puts love and care into every crazy creation he makes.

“Next, I’ll cut avocados,” says Jonathan Grahm, owner of Compartès Chocolate.

Wait did he say avocados? Grahm is the mastermind behind Compartès Chocolate and he will put basically anything into his bars.

“I love putting ingredients I love into the chocolate,” says Grahm.

The L.A. company is known world-wide for their unique selections. Grahm takes it one step further to fulfill the avocado obsession with his famous avocado chocolate bar. This year with tortilla chips added to the mix.

“People wait for this bar because it is so special and so unique. We are the only chocolate company in the world that would make an avocado chocolate bar,” says Grahm.

The waitlist this year for the chocolate concoction was over 2,500 people long. The bar is almost sold out. Grahm said in years past, it became a frenzy.

“Last year, people were trading them on EBay and posting them on Craigslist for more money than their worth. It’s just a phenomenon,” says Grahm.

He says avocados are trendy and of course delicious. The numbers don’t lie. According to Hass alone, their sales this year so far are almost $1.5 billion, which explains why Grahm’s bars are so popular.

“It’s so representative of L.A. It’s like every menu in L.A. has avocado toast, so I figured why not make avocado chocolate,” says Grahm.

The rising price of avocados is on everyone’s mind. According to the Department of Agriculture, the price of a Hass avocado went from $1.17 in 2018 to $2.10 this year. But this won’t change anything for Grahm. His price stays the same year after year.

“Despite having avocado and it may cost more to make, I still sell them for $9.95,” says Grahm.
