LOS ANGELES – When you see the Sparks face the Seattle Storm in the WNBA Playoffs on Sunday afternoon, you will see Frenchy, the in-arena host for the LA Sparks.
“When I’m on that court all I’m thinking about is just making sure that everyone that’s coming here is having an amazing time. I feed off their energy,” Frenchy said. “When I go out there and say ‘Let me here you scream’ I need to hear that back. When I get that energy back then I know – ok.”
Frenchy moved to Los Angeles from New York a couple of years ago when he became the host for the Clippers. The move came after almost 10 years of grinding in the business and getting told no more times than he can count.
“The rejections really are the big tests. The big tests to figure out how bad do you want this,” Frenchy said.
He passed the test with an A+, and is now a beloved figure at Staples Center living his dream on one of the biggest stages, including NBA All-Star Game weekend.
Even though he makes it look easy, it isn’t. He comes in well before game time for production meetings, and memorizing his script. While entertaining thousands of fans, he has to keep track of the game to prepare for the live post-game interview.
While Frenchy strives to pursue his next goals, he is thinking about the generation coming behind him who want to be just like him.
“I’m responding to these DM’s. I’m stopping on the court. I’m stopping on the streets if anybody has questions,” Frenchy said. “Coming up for me there was no handbook, it was kind of like figuring out all along the way.”
He has figured it out in a big way. So, when you come see the Sparks in playoff action this weekend, Frenchy will give you a big show you need to see.
