Legendary drummer of The Doors, John Densmore and Richard Montoya of performance troupe, Culture Clash were on The Afternoon Beat this week talking with Kelvin Washington about the upcoming 60th Anniversary Gala Benefit for KPFK radio.

Densmore co-founded The Doors with guitarist Robbie Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and singer Jim Morrison in 1965. He'll be reuniting with Krieger to perform some Doors songs for the benefit and hinted he may be joined by some of the other musical luminaries appearing at the event, which include David Bowie's pianist Mike Garson and Tenacious-D frontman, Jack Black.

Montoya, who co-founded the Latino satire troupe Culture Clash in San Francisco's Mission District in 1984, will serve as emcee for the event, which will also feature appearances by bassist Stanley Clarke, musician Don Was, alt-country trio the Haden Triplets, and radio personality Amy Goodman.

The gala event, which takes place at the Skirball Cultural Center on Saturday, Sept. 7, will celebrate 60 years of KPFK, which went on the air in 1959 and has long provided an independent media voice on Southern California airwaves.
