GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – Pacifica High School students in the Garden Grove Unified School District published an Instagram post on Wednesday evening expressing their feelings after three videos were leaked showing students from the school engaging in Nazi salutes.

The first video was originally published on Monday on The Daily Beast. The video was filmed in November of 2018 and depicted a group of students at an off-campus banquet saluting and signing to Nazi themes.

The second video showed students from the high school making Nazi gestures. The third video was of a student wearing the Confederate flag released on Tuesday.

The Instagram account, @PacificaASB, is an account run by students of the associated student body on campus. Their post was addressed to the community, the staff, the parents, the alumni, student body, and anyone hurt by these events.

Here is a portion of the post:

“As fellow students here on campus, we understand what you are feeling right now and have been feeling for the past few days. We are here to let you know that, as an ASB, we feel the same way and we are just as hurt and disappointed by the hateful behavior that has occurred on and off campus.”

Pacifica High School students are expected to return to campus following their summer break next Wednesday.

To our community, the staff, the parents, the alumni, and most importantly, our student body and anyone hurt by these events: As fellow students here on campus, we understand what you are feeling right now and have been feeling for the past few days. We are here to let you know that, as an ASB, we feel the same way and we are just as hurt and disappointed by the hateful behaviour that has occurred on and off campus. These actions are not condoned, supported, nor appreciated by us in any way, shape, or form, and we do not take any of it lightly. These actions do not represent the whole of our athletics program, the whole of our staff, and the whole of our student body, as it does not accurately reflect the beliefs that many of our students have. As student leaders on campus, we are on your side in advocating for change on this campus. We want to stress that we are here for you all, and we want you to feel safe when being at school. We want our students to feel comfortable in communicating anything, from concerns and fears to suggestions and ideas. We are here to help facilitate growth, kindness, and positivity on campus. But we need your help - we cannot stand alone in this journey. We will need the help of the community, the staff, and most importantly, the students. We must face what has happened in the community and fight to be a part of the solution with patience, courage, and fearlessness. We hope that we all do whatever we can to respect our peers and keep our community safe in this time of tension and healing. Moving forward, we cannot change what happened, but we will work our hardest to educate each other, learn from one another, and grow together. Moving forward, we will not let hate become normalized and instead push to introduce and consistently reinforce a new and stronger culture on campus that promotes love and respect for all. Moving forward, we will stand united. Disclaimer: This is an account run by students of our ASB. This is a statement from the students, and any statements from the administration and district can be found on our school & district websites. Any inappropriate comments will be removed.
