SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Murray Hidary started playing piano at the age of six. He focused on classical compositions, and knew he wanted to be a composer early on.

After studying at New York University, his wanderlust took him around the world, gleaning musical influences along the way. He went onto become a successful tech pioneer in his 20s.

His passion to create and improvise music remained a personal practice until six years ago, when Mindtravel was born.

Mindtravel is an immersive musical experience with silent headphones that takes place in unique settings outdoors. Hidary says his mission is to move people to purpose, and help them on a journey of self-discovery and mindfulness.

He always wanted it to create an authentic experience that would be accessible to all who attend. As a result, Mindtravel is funded by suggested donations. Each live performance is unique and improvised and the recordings are given as a gift to the audience with a 'pay later' option.

Putting a great trust into the community, Hidary says this social experiment has had a 90 percent return on people sending money in when they can.

If you're just curious, or if you are seeking a transformative individual experience collectively, Mindtravel is unique and a great reminder to take time to slow down and be present in your surroundings.
