SOUTH LOS ANGELES -- Domo Bleu is responsible for managing The Bleu Kitchen food truck, where outside there’s a long line of people waiting to be served, something he doesn’t take for granted.

“Before I started working with the truck, I was just doing a lot of, you know, odd jobs just to make it. I had jobs at Walmart, I hustled. This is one of the good things that happened for my life. It made a major change,” said Bleu.

The Bleu Kitchen is a one of four food trucks running under the umbrella of WFE Consulting, where Lee Smith is owner and primary. You may remember him as the DJ who toured with the late Nipsey Hussle. He’s the glue who holds the four food trucks together and helps find them opportunities

“Cutting out the middle man. Often times, there’s other companies who do the booking for events and get a percentage, whereas that’s not the case with WFE. We really want to make sure that we’re getting everybody together, so that the owner of these businesses can get all the money they deserve,” Smith said.

The minority-owned businesses find work at community events and festivals, like the recent naming ceremony of Barack Obama Boulevard in Baldwin Village.

“It’s a blessing to see when you get this many people to come out for you. They’re passing up all these other restaurants just to taste your food, and when you see they are happy and satisfied and you got your regulars coming back. That’s one of the best feelings in the world,” Bleu added.

For Bleu and Smith, the food service is all about continuing the marathon Nipsey Hussle preached about through entrepreneurship.

“Everyday we got our food on the gas and we’re not giving up. And pretty soon you’re gonna see Bleu Kitchen’s, Court Cafes, All Flavor No Greases, and Taco Meals everywhere,” proclaimed Bleu.

“But it’s up to us to work with people like us to continue to do everything in our community,” said Smith.
