LOS ANGELES -- As the first Latina to host a daytime talk show on English language network TV, Adrienne Bailon Houghton is breaking barriers, not just in entertainment, but as an entrepreneur as well with new jewelry line, XiXi.
The line was created to empower women with designs inspired by spiritual symbolism.
“The necklace that we launched is from the ‘It is written’ collection and actually Psalm 32:8 is the inspiration behind it." said Houghton. "It is about God leading you and showing you the way. Pretty much, Jesus is my compass, so the necklace is a constant reminder that you are being guided and to remind you to keep your ears open to the voice of God."
In spite of her success and her millions of fans and followers, Houghton remains a dreamer at heart. She says the jewelry line is her way of giving back, in more ways than one. Proceeds from her pop-ups are dedicated to her local homeless outreach efforts, Besos Care Packages, which provides relief essentials for those in need in Los Angeles.
“We decided to put together care packages. We did some research on what are the things people are in need of; the things that we take for granted every single day. Simple things like socks, hand sanitizers, a snack, a bottle of water, tooth brush, and tooth paste. We put those together and we handed them out in the streets of Downtown L.A.,” she explained.
The ability to sustain her ongoing mission through her jewelry line is all the more possible because Houghton keeps her products priced affordably.
“I wanted them to be able to get pieces that on one hand, are things that I would wear but I know that they could afford. That for me was really important because before I was doing this, and I was fans of people, there were so many things that they had that I loved, that I definitely could not afford or wear. It’s just really awesome to be able to do that,” said Houghton.
As a Latina representing the growing diversity in Hollywood, she says her jewelry is another way of encouraging women to pioneer their own passions.
“What I want women to feel when they’re wearing the pieces that I created is empowered. I pray that I am an example that anything is possible. That if you put your heart into something and never give up, the sky’s the limit.”
