LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Dyan Cannon, the legendary actress and Los Angeles Lakers courtside queen, never shows up to a game without her classic, homemade brownies.
“I’ve been bringing brownies to the Lakers for probably 15-20 years; to the valet, to the sports announcer, and to the Lakers,” Cannon said.
But before her brownies became a staple at the Staples Center, Dyan was busy climbing the ranks of Hollywood in the '60s and '70s, a frequent leading lady in classics like Heaven Can Wait.
Now, as a loyal Lakers fan, she’s treating not just the players, but everyone from stadium security, to the sports announcers. She says generosity is simply an expression of her faith.
“I’m a God girl, that’s first in my life. I try to practice what God says about love. I think love is giving and that’s part of the reason I love giving to the Lakers,” she said.
Cannon has been sitting court-side since the days at the Forum. She said her joy for the excitement of live basketball, kind of stumbled upon her.
“When Jerry West was playing and the President of Columbia Pictures gave me his floor seat ticket and Jerry West fell on my lap and spilled coffee all over me. When I first got tickets I sat way up there. It was the only time in my life where I wanted to work my way down,” she explained.
But no matter how exclusive her seats are, Cannon’s humble spirit shines, as she constantly remains considerate of others around her.
“I just think that’s the secret to happiness, is giving. It’s a really, really interesting thing. The more you give, the more you get. It just works out that way."
