Clothes were the last thing Cyndi Harris thought about when she was evacuating her home. But when the Woolsey fire burned through her neighborhood it meant everything she hadn’t packed, would be destroyed.

“I lost my home, I lost everything” said Harris.

More than a month later, she is trying to rebuild her life with the help of an impromptu garage-boutique just miles away from where the fire burned.

Harris says the community has come together like never before.

“Everyone has been so generous in donating, literally, the shirts off their backs,” says Harris.

The one leading the effort, Jessica Steindorff, a life-long resident was also impacted by the fire.

“My mom lost her home and I stayed pretty much the whole time to help rescue animals,” says Steindorff.

Seeing the need her family and neighbors were in, she enlisted the help of her friends. They spent weeks remodeling her garage to turn it into a donation-boutique with clothes from brands big and small. Here, folks whose houses have burned can get some clothes to help them get back on their feet.

“I think that a lot of people think that everything has gone back to normal and it probably won’t be that way for the next couple of years so we just want to make sure that everyone has support,” says Steindorff.

“Jessica has provided an opportunity for us to create a new life from the ashes, it’s a wonderful community and she’s an example of what everyone is like in this town," says Harris.
