Chase Rogers has been dancing since before he can remember.

“I want to be a professional ballet dancer, especially at a company as prestigious as ABT,” he said.

Now, he’s getting a crack at it and is preparing to dance as the young Nutcracker Prince in the prestigious American Ballet Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa.

"It’s not just a physical art, you have to be good at it mentally,” he said.

For Rogers, it’s a family affair bringing his art to life – Starting with mom who wears many hats.

“Chauffer, cheerleader, physical therapist, psychologist and chef,” she said. “Physical, emotional, mental and academic all to balance."

“I miss a week and a half of school, but at ABT they have on-site schooling,” Rogers said.

Rogers spends eight hours dancing on the weekends and four hours during the weekday.

“Not pressure, but there are such high standards you have to know your role well,” he said.

Because come opening night, it’s not just his mom watching – but ABT scouts as well.

“You really want to represent ABT well and do good for them," Rogers said. “Showing ABT what I’m capable of and showing them I can becomes a pro."

He has that chance on Friday night when The Nutcracker, and maybe even a chance at his dream dancing professionally, comes to life.
