Well, it's that time of year again.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times unveiled its annual 101 best restaurants of LA. To celebrate the much-anticipated guide, the Times threw a party featuring bites from 30 of LA's top restaurants followed by a live debut of the top-secret list.

What You Need To Know

  • Every year, the Los Angeles Times’ 101 list serves as a map to Southern California’s singular culinary scene

  • The 2021 guide is a tribute to quality and creativity — and the resilience of an industry that has been affected during nearly two years of pandemic setbacks

  • Some of the restaurants featured were Mayura Indian restaurant, wine bar, A.O.C., and Post & Beam

  • The 101 list is now available online to times subscribers, along with a downloadable checklist

Along with restaurants, the event also honored other food businesses.

"This event and the restaurant guide are celebrating excellence in Los Angeles restaurants, pop-ups, food trucks, food carts. We will have a lot of wonderful food and drinks. This is something we started doing when Jonathan Gold was our restaurant critic. And the one-on-one food event connected with the publication of the list came about in the last few years because this is a pretty big deal," said LA Times food editor Alice Short.

Mayura Indian restaurant was one of the eateries honored that night.

"Mayura means peacock. It is a symbol of elegance. We specialize in South Indian authentic cuisine, which is the land of spices. So, it's very different from all other Indian restaurants in Los Angeles. Our specialties are fish curry, special chicken curry, and we have several gluten-free and vegan dishes. I'm very happy to be part of this. We have attended this event since 2013, so we are always a part of this program. We are very happy and thankful," said the owner of Mayura Indian restaurant, Padmini Aniyan.

Another restaurant that made the list was the wine bar A.O.C., specializing in family-style dishes.

"We have insanely delicious food that's very rustic. We have a grilled albacore salad; it's super delicious and something on our brunch menu. It is a huge honor to be in the 101 best restaurants. LA is a competitive restaurant community. We have amazingly talented chefs throughout the city, and it feels great to be recognized and included," said A.O.C. restauranteur Caroline Styne.

Post & Beam is known for its California comfort food, and it made the 101 best restaurants list this year.

"We've been around for ten years, so we try to mix in the balance of California ingredients with that comfort kind of soul food of the South. We're doing Black-eyed peas pancakes, which are served with our red snapper jelly, and fermented collard greens, which are fermented sort of like sauerkraut. We're thrilled to be here; obviously, it's not something we were expecting. Like every other restaurant, we're just struggling to try to make it happen, at a time when it's obviously twice as hard to do that," said Chef De Cuisine for Post & Beam, Martin Draluck.
