When They See Us, is Ava Duvernay’s heartbreaking docudrama about the wrongful conviction of black teenagers, Korey Wise, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Antron McCray, and Kevin Richardson.

Known as the Central Park Five, these teens were falsely accused of rape in 1989. The Netflix series offers the point of view of not only the boys who were coerced and manipulated into confessing to the horrific crimes they did not commit.

The series has gained numerous Emmy nominations. LA Times television critic Lorriane Ali wrote about the show and what these award nods mean for the conversation around systemic racism in the United States.
