LOS ANGELES — In 2020, the Pew Research Center reported that Joe Biden received over 90% of the votes from Black voters.
However, according to recent polls, Biden’s support from the same community is in flux in this election cycle.
Political commentator and civil rights attorney Areva Martin joined “Inside the Issues” host Amrit Singh to discuss how the Black vote could impact the 2024 election.
Martin said the reason some polling shows Biden losing favor in the Black community might be due to how far away the election is and expect things to change as the year goes on.
“As people start to really turn toward the election, and they see what their options are, I have no doubt that Biden’s going to enjoy a record number of Black votes,” Martin said.
Recent polls have shown Trump has gained support from Black voters, which Martin said is a sign for the Biden campaign to get out and campaign on the investments they’ve made to help the community.
The accomplishments include investing in the Head Start program and reaching the lowest Black unemployment rate of all time.
“There’s so many things to tout by this administration. I think it’s just a question of making sure all these accomplishments are known by the voters,” Martin said.
