U.S. Census data shows the city of Irvine is among the 10 fastest growing cities in the nation.
Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan joined “Inside the Issues” host Alex Cohen to discuss the city’s past and its future.
“We take great pride in our diverse community,” she said.
Khan also mentioned the city’s strong educational system, including UC Irvine and Chapman University, as well as its reputation for being one of the safest cities in the country.
“[Irvine] thrives on making sure people enjoy not only just living but working and playing in our city,” she said.
But Khan admitted there are challenges to strong growth, calling it a balancing act.
“As we’re growing, we’re taking care of our infrastructure. We’re going to make sure that we’ve got enough businesses headquartering in our city … that are providing the sales tax revenue that we need to continue providing those services and programs that our residents enjoy so much,” she said.
Khan also said she wants to make sure there is enough housing for middle-income families who live in Irvine.
