There are 46 candidates certified for California's gubernatorial recall election on Sept. 14. 

On the ballot, voters will be presented with the question, "Shall Gavin Newsom be recalled (removed) from the office of governor?" 

If voters choose to do so, they can select their choice to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom from a list of all qualified candidates. Leading up to the recall election, "Inside the Issues" is recapping the 46 replacement candidates for governor.

Kevin L. Faulconer, 54, is a Republican who grew up in Oxnard and served as mayor of San Diego from 2014 through 2020. He supports same-sex marriage, abortion rights and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Faulconer said he voted for Donald Trump in 2020.

Republican Ted Gaines, 63, hails from Roseville and served as a State Assemblymember for District 4 and a State Senator for District 1. Currently, he is a member of the California State Board of Equalization, which oversees taxes and fee collection. He believes that "for many homeless, coercion will be necessary to get them help and integrated back into society and living the lives that they deserve."

Jeff Hewitt, 68, is the only Libertarian on the ballot. He hails from Redlands and is a member of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. He was accused of sexual harassment by a former county employee in a case that was settled for $50,000 in taxpayer funds. Hewitt supports educational savings account for every student in California.

Kevin Kiley, 36, is a Republican from Sacramento currently serving his second term in the State Assembly for District 6. He attended Harvard University and Yale Law School and is against vaccine and mask mandates.
