California has passed the Crown Act (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair), which would ban discrimination against natural black hairstyles at work and in schools.
The bill, drafted by Los Angeles’ own, State Senator Holly Mitchell, will “ensure protection against discrimination in the workplace and schools based on hairstyles by prohibiting employers and schools from enforcing purportedly ‘race neutral’ grooming policies that disproportionately impact persons of color.”
