In this week's In Focus: SoCal, host Tanya McRae delves into SoCal's COVID-19 vaccination plans in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, and San Bernardino counties.

McRae sits down with the state's first-ever Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, to learn more about California's plan to transition to a statewide vaccination distribution system headed by Blue Shield.

Dr. Burke Harris discusses how the new plan, expected to go into place mid-February, will focus on achieving equity by ensuring vaccine allocation in low-income communities and areas that are experiencing higher rates of COVID-19 infection and deaths.

L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis joins this week's conversation with the latest information on L.A. County's vaccination rollout, including FEMA's mass vaccination site at Cal State L.A. that will open on February 16. Supervisor Solis said the county needs at least 500,000 doses of the vaccine each week, compared to the 100,000-124,000 it's been receiving so far.

McRae also sits down with Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, who talks about the importance of vaccinating educators to reopen schools. Cal State Long Beach became the first Cal State to establish a vaccination clinic for staff, faculty, and students.
