On this week's In Focus: SoCal, host Tanya McRae speaks with a few winning candidates around Southern California about their plans for the next few years.
State Senator Holly Mitchell's victory in the L.A. County Board of Supervisors race against Herb Wesson is historic, as it puts five women on the board for the first time in history. Mitchell tells McRae how her experience in the State Senate will help in her new role representing the Second Supervisorial District.
Mitchell will take the seat of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who is returning to the L.A. City Council — where he started his political career 18 years ago. He talks about his plans to fix the homelessness crisis in the 10th District, which spans from Koreatown to Crenshaw.
McRae also sits down with Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer, who won reelection for the 59th District against challenger Efren Martinez. Jones-Sawyer shares with McRae the changes he hopes to see with criminal justice reform in California.
Finally, McRae checks in with John Myers, the Sacramento bureau chief for the LA Times, to discuss some of the state propositions that passed and failed.
