LOS ANGELES — This week marks 79 years since the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs in Japan at the end of World War II.

To commemorate the anniversary, groups such as Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, Back from the Brink Coalition, Teens4Disarmament and Students for Nuclear Disarmament are coming together to remember the lives lost and call for the elimination of these weapons.

The groups are hosting a vigil at the Gloria Molina Grand Park in LA starting at 6 p.m. Friday, where they will release water lanterns to remember those who passed. Kikuko Otake. survivor of the Hiroshima bombing, will be sharing her family's experience and her advocacy work urging countries not to use their nuclear arsenal.
