HAWTHORNE, Calif. — The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors has passed a motion calling for reading materials to be provided in LA County jails.

On Feb. 28, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath brought the motion forward during a board meeting. It passed unanimously.

The board has requested that the sheriff report back on efforts to install bookshelves in county jail facilities and allow donated books to be provided.

The initiative was spearheaded by Ahmanise Sanati, a mental health clinician who previously worked in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. She saw the need and desire for books in LA County Jails.
