MID CITY, Calif. – The portrait of a loving father and his teenage daughter gone too soon.
Underneath the mural, as a memorial grows some visitors are praying while others simply stop to take a photo.
Anh Luu came here with her co-workers from New Story Church in downtown Los Angeles. She still remembers the first time she saw Kobe Bryant on the court.

“It was mesmerizing and even someone who is not well versed in basketball like I am, I fell in love with how dedicated and how determined he was, it was a beautiful display of human determination,” said Luu.
She says Bryant is more than just an NBA Legend, for her, he will forever be part of the story of LA.
“Growing up in the 626, it was a very diverse town. I’m Vietnamese and I have a lot of friends who are Hispanic and we had these cultural icons that we can always talk about and I think Kobe just united a lot of us,” says Luu.
The mural is displayed on the side of the Pickford Market at the corner of Pickford Street and Vineyard Avenue. It was painted by artist Jules Muck, also known as Muckrock.
Tom Kang is one of the pastors for New Story church and says the mural is not just a work of art but it’s also giving fans a place to gather and console each other.
“Our entire city right now is mourning the loss of a legend and there are people on staff who have been kind of torn up about it as well, part of it is a cathartic thing for us personally life selfishly speaking and another part of it is wanting to be here for our city,” said Kang.
A city who’s heart is aching over the loss of a legend that inspired so many.
