MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — Every day Angel Ramos can be found inside his garbage truck picking up cans across San Gabriel Valley. He’s been collecting trash for Athens Services for 37 years, but six months ago he picked up a friend.

Every Tuesday two-year-old Ryan Su runs across his driveway to say hello to Ramos. His mom was surprised his love for trucks turned into a friendship.

"Sometimes we get delivery guys and they just wave to him. But for Angel to actually come off out of his truck and come and say 'hi' to him every single week, it’s just heartwarming,” Lori Su said. “Sometimes [Ryan] gets stranger danger but not with Angel. So it’s definitely a friendship.”

As soon as Ryan hears the truck, he heads to the garage where he puts on his shoes to run and get a glimpse of his friend. Then Ramos hops off for a hug.

"I feel very happy because he comes out and hugs me every Tuesday and greets me with a hug and says 'hi,'” Ramos said.

Their meeting is brief, as Ramos has to go back to work. Ryan says bye, from the exact spot they’ll meet again next week.
