PASADENA, Calif. – Pulling a trailer with a car jack isn’t the most ideal way to move, but for Stephen Hudson it’s the best way to get it done.

When the trailer gets as far as it needs to go, Hudson yelled to the guys pushing in the back, “Good deal.”

“We just moved this trailer up so we can have more room for other units to come in,” said Hudson.

MORE ROSE PARADE STORIES:

Namely his unit. The big rig truck driver started an RV club four years ago with a group of guys he grew up with. The same group that would all attend the Rose Parade together as kids 50 years ago.

“In our club we usually have a trip every two to three months and this is one of our outings.  It’s just that important to us,” said Hudson.

It started with a small group and tripled in size over the last couple of years.

They spare no expense and have lots of gear to get them through New Year’s Eve on to New Year’s Day.

As he is digging through the bed of his RV Hudson says, “I got my heater here I got two of these that I hook up to my propane tank.”

He is especially ready for the cold.

“I got to be if you stay ready you ain’t got to get ready,” said Hudson.

As he sets up his RV space in a block of the parade route in a nearby parking lot, he recalls what it was like many year ago.

“When I was a youngster I think five all the way until I got 18, I was down on that street and we partied down there or else we thought we were partying but then once I got grown I didn’t like sitting on that ground no more then bought this and I come back,” said Hudson.

They don’t see each other as much as they want to, but when they do get together it’s always like old times.

Hudson said this year it was especially important for him to see those that he cares about.

“Oh man it means a lot I’ve been to a lot of funerals this year I used all my sick time on funerals and I still got this crew this group here. Can’t beat it and we all just have fun,” Hudson said.

Bringing in the New Year with those who are near and dear.
