It's almost time for the 130th Rose Parade to roll down Colorado Boulevard.
This year's theme is "The Melody of Life," and on Tuesday morning the flower-covered floats, marching bands, high-stepping equestrians and Grand Marshal Chaka Khan will begin their procession past the crowds assembled in Pasadena.
If you plan to watch in person, there are several things you need to know. Keep in mind, there will be thousands of people lining the parade route, so get there early.
Start Time: The Rose Parade will start at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. People looking for prime viewing locations were allowed to begin claiming their spots on Monday, Dec. 31 at noon. But be sure to stay on the curb until 11 p.m., when you can move out to the blue "Honor Line'' onto the street for a great view in the morning.
Parking: Paid parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis at lots and parking structures near the parade route. All “No Parking” areas and red curb zones remain off-limits. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed. Several companies are offering reserved parking. Click here for an official list of those lots.
Road Closures: Colorado Boulevard wil close to traffic at 10 p.m. Monday and remain closed until after the parade and cleanup. The parade route will re-open by 2 p.m. Tuesday. See the map below from the City of Pasadena for detour information.
How to Dress: Bundle up! For the folks camping out, the temperature is expected to dip down to 41 degrees Monday night, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will climb to 44 degrees around 8 a.m., and should reach a high of 60 degrees by the afternoon.
