HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Mayor Karen Bass announced a new campaign to address homelessness.
LA4LA calls on business leaders, charitable organizations and wealthy individuals to help fund housing for unhoused Angelenos.
In Mayor Bass’ first-ever budget, $1.3 billion was allocated to address the homelessness crisis. A fifth went to Inside Safe, the mayor’s program to move homeless Angelenos out of the streets.
The LA City Administrator’s Office estimates that there are more than 46,000 people experiencing homelessness in LA.
As of March 15, 440 people are currently in permanent housing and 1,456 are in interim housing. The mayor didn’t offer any details regarding the program.
Those within LA4LA and those who work directly with the unhoused spoke to Spectrum News about what they think about this approach.
