NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — City and county leaders are addressing shortcomings in the fight against homelessness as the 2024 Greater LA Homeless Count kicks off this week.

Last year, homelessness grew by nearly 10% across LA County despite an increase in funding, services and the building of more affordable housing.

LAHSA’s CEO Dr. Va Lecia Adams Kellum said urgency increased this past year under LA Mayor Karen Bass’ leadership, and for the first time in a long time, the city and county are working together toward a solution.

In the meantime, Bass said that while there is still more work to be done, there has been measurable success in parts of the city in clearing encampments through her Inside Safe program, getting people inside and building more housing.
