LOS ANGELES — After the presents have been gleefully unwrapped comes the inevitable: trash. But the ripped wrapping paper and greeting cards won’t be picked up on the usual schedule this holiday season.

Because Christmas and New Year’s Day both fall on Sundays and worker holidays take place on the following Mondays, Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment is altering its collection schedule.

Trash pickups will be delayed one day for the week as follows:

  • Regularly scheduled Monday pickups will happen Tuesday
  • Regularly scheduled Tuesday pickups will happen Wednesday
  • Regularly scheduled Wednesday pickups will happen Thursday
  • Regularly scheduled Thursday pickups will happen Friday
  • Regularly scheduled Friday pickups will happen Saturday

LASAN says its regular collection schedule will resume Jan. 9.
