SANTA MONICA, Calif. (CNS) — A giant, animated U.S. flag will appear Tuesday evening on the Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier in honor of Flag Day.

The display on the 90-feet-tall Ferris wheel will be seen from sunset (about 8:07 p.m.) to 12:30 a.m.

It will feature a “patriotic display of dazzling red, white and blue colors, patterns and transitions in salute to Flag Day,” officials said.

The Ferris wheel is located in Pacific Park, at 380 Santa Monica Pier.

Flag Day is celebrated every June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the U.S. flag on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

Although not a federal holiday, it was established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916.
