SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – We first met Serra senior LV Bunkley-Shelton when he was deciding what University’s football program he would play for. His parents made it clear, they didn’t care what school he chose. It was all about education.
“There’s life after football. You can’t play football forever, even if he’s blessed to go to the NFL or something like that,” said Mike Shelton, LV’s dad.
Today, LV is stepping toward the future despite a senior year with no graduation. He’s focused on his life on the gridiron. Although, he doesn’t know when he will hit the field in college because of COVID-19, he’s not worried.
“Gotta keep my head up, pray to God every day, hoping that my family’s safe, other people are safe, make sure that this coronavirus goes away and I’m just trying to get to school,” LV said.
The school he has chosen is Arizona State which brings a chance to work with legendary coach, Herm Edwards.
“It’s like a NFL – NFL coaching staff right there,” LV said.
It’s why he’s in San Bernardino, working out with his new teammates, Heisman candidate quarterback, Jayden Daniels. It’s the reason missing senior prom and graduation doesn’t bother him at all.
“I’m ready to get my diploma and I’m ready to get outta here. Trying to start football, trying to start my new life” LV explained.
Though right now no one has any idea when his new life under the bright lights will be born. It was a school year which began with so much promise for LV and his family, now ending with uncertainty.
But he’s still running toward his future full steam ahead.
