SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation Parkinson’s Prevalence Project, 1.2 million people in the U.S. will be living with Parkinson’s by 2030.

There is no cure for the chronic degenerative disease. That’s why a healthier ice cream shop in San Clemente called Vedder’s has the slogan: Funding Parkinson’s research one scoop at a time.

The ice cream was created by Ashley Vedder in her search to find a healthier way to indulge in a scoop of the sweet stuff for her husband, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s about a decade ago.

The shop had its grand opening in 2021. With fundraisers the Vedder family has hosted and a portion of ice cream sales, the family has raised about $600,000 for the Michael J Fox Foundation, dedicated to funding research for a cure.
