LOS ANGELES — Research shows that low-income communities consistently face several barriers to accessing health care and other services. The residents of Nickerson Gardens say the same is true in their public housing development.

Over the last several months, USC’s Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute, or SC CTSI held a series of listening sessions asking residents about the overall health of the Nickerson Gardens community, access and barriers to care and what health care services were still needed on site.

In a town hall hosted by the SC CTSI and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, residents shared that their concerns and service providers made plans to bridge the gap.
