MALIBU, Calif. — Irina Columbeanu, a 16-year-old Romanian immigrant who moved to the U.S. at the age of 12, faced unexpected challenges when exposed to unhealthy weight loss posts on social media.
The constant comparisons with other girls took a toll on her mental well-being, leading to depression and anxiety.
However, she found solace and support within the community of the Boys and Girls Club in Malibu, which has become instrumental in her healing journey.
Today, she serves as an intern at the club’s wellness center, where she plays a vital role in providing support to fellow students.
Through her own experiences and newfound role, she demonstrates the power of community and mental health resources in helping young individuals overcome adversity.
