SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Hot yoga is no longer the hottest fitness trend.

Recently, Downtown Santa Monica Inc. began hosting “ice yoga” classes on its downtown holiday ice skating rink. Practitioners go through their poses with nothing but a rubber mat between them and the ice.

According to the organizers, when the body is exposed to low temperatures, it releases endorphins and allows the body to burn more calories as it works to maintain its internal temperature.
