LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The annual Health care Professionals Mass will be celebrated Sunday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, honoring physicians, nurses, chaplains, physical therapists, mental health caregivers, chiropractors, lab workers and all others in the field.
Archbishop Jose H. Gomez will bless all health care professionals present and those watching the livestream. Bishop Marc Trudeau, auxiliary bishop for the archdiocese's San Pedro Pastoral Region, will concelebrate the Mass and serve as homilist.
The Health care Professionals Mass, also known as the White Mass, has been a tradition in the United States since the late 1800s. The White Mass was originally named for the white lab coats worn by many in the health care profession.
"Our health care professionals more than ever stand out as true examples of sacrificial love," said Michael P. Donaldson, senior director of the archdiocese's Office of Life, Justice and Peace.
"We give them honor and thanks for their dedication in serving the sick and seeking the well-being of the whole person, mind, body and soul. During this time of pandemic, their works have not gone unnoticed. On the contrary, we have witnessed amazing heroic virtues in their care for those in need of healing."
The Mass will be live-streamed on facebook.com/olacathedral or olacathedral.org/live at 3:30 p.m.
