CHINA – Angelenos should prepare to spend the next few months in their homes, according to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who said Sunday his “safer-at-home” policy will continue into the summer months.

Half way around the world, Los Feliz native Samson Adame is finally coming out of quarantine. When Spectrum News 1 first featured his story in February, coronavirus was far from the minds of most of his friends back home.

“I thought ‘there’s no way we’ll let it get that bad in the U.S.,” Adame said, who was living in Beijing on a semester abroad with Cal State University Northridge when the pandemic began in Wuhan.

Adame was celebrating the Lunar New Year with his Chinese girlfriend’s family in a remote province when the country went into lockdown in January.

Now, he says life is slowly going back to normal, just as the virus hits his hometown. He says it’s up to Americans to lead the fight here.

“At the end of the day, this virus is spread by people so we need to take responsibility,” Adame said.

He is hoping to return home to the Unites States this summer, but he is not sure it will happen. This new future we’re all heading into – he just can’t imagine it.
