LA HABRA, Calif. – As people rush to grocery stores, the shelves are being cleared leaving some of our most vulnerable populations without even some of the most basic needs. Northgate Market decided to step up and help seniors and handicapped populations check off their shopping lists without fighting the general crowds.

MORE CORONAVIRUS COVERAGE:

Northgate Market opened from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. beginning Monday, March 16, just for those 65 and older. All of it's 41 stores will continue the special hours indefinitely, according to a store manager.

Other stores SoCal stores soon followed suit.

The list of SoCal grocery stores offering special hours for seniors includes:

  • Bristol Farms – 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. (for 62+ beginning 3/20)
  • Northgate Market – 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Gelson’s Market – 7 a.m. to 8 a.m
  • Albertsons, Vons, Pavillions – 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday
  • Vallarta Supermarkets – 7 a.m. to 8 a.m
  • Target – 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Dollar General – 1st Hour will be reserved for seniors/handicapped/vulnerable shoppers
  • Mother's Market – 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. every Wednesday, free delivery
