SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — The Environmental Protection Agency is joining the investigation into an odor coming from the privately owned Chiquita Canyon Landfill. This now makes the EPA the ninth and only federal agency part of the task force tackling this situation.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District received more than 1,500 public complaints in just one month and has issued over 100 public nuisance violations tied to those odor complaints.

Until now, local and state entities have worked on this issue. Now the environmental protection agency has joined the investigation and will be leading the task force.

Spectrum News 1 went to the Castaic area to speak with community members about the issue.
