LOS ANGELES — Over her 30-year career, five-time Emmy-winning composer Laura Karpman has written a diverse range of film and TV scores, including her latest score for Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction.”

Karpman has a passion for jazz and drew on her jazz foundation for “American Fiction,” which features flute performances by Elena Pinderhughes.

Karpman’s score has been shortlisted for an Oscar nomination, the first time the composer has been “part of the Oscar conversation” in her career.
