EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The Christmas spirit comes to life in the new Prime Video film “Candy Cane Lane.”

In the film, Eddie Murphy is on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest, but a mischievous elf named Pepper casts a spell that unleashes the 12 Days of Christmas to life that wreaks havoc on the whole town.

“Candy Cane Lane” is set in El Segundo, where in real life, every year, folks from all over come to visit the Christmas displays.

Reggie Hudlin, the film’s director, told Spectrum News 1 how great it was to film in the community.

“The people of El Segundo are so wonderful. The whole neighborhood was joyous. Anywhere we shot, whether it was El Segundo High School or anywhere else, everyone was just lovely,” he said.

Kelly Younger, who wrote the script, told Spectrum News 1 the film is based on his upbringing in El Segundo.

“My parents moved to El Segundo many years ago. My father — who is a truck driver by trade — is a craftsman and an artist. When they moved to El Segundo and realized this is a neighborhood that goes all out for Christmas, he knew he moved to the right town,” Younger said.

Production designer Aaron Osborne also joined Spectrum News to discuss the set designs for the film’s Candy Cane Lane and shared advice on how to decorate your home for the holidays.

“Pick a theme and go with it,” he said.

The film also stars Tracee Ellis Ross, Jillian Bell, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas and Thaddeus J. Mixson.

“Candy Cane Lane” is now streaming on Prime Video.
