LOS ANGELES — Tyler Perry is a media mogul, but underneath all the success, there is a man who has been working to heal his childhood trauma by transforming his pain into promise and paving the way for a new generation.

The new documentary, “Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story,” is a love note to his mother, and it also shows his road to the top of the entertainment industry.

The film is directed by Gelila Bekele and Armani Ortiz.

Bekele, who has a son with Perry, told Spectrum News she dreams the world for their son.

“Hopefully, he is inspired by how hard his father works. We often times see people like Tyler, who have achieved so much, just the end result, but to actually see the process, the work that goes into it, the respect he has for work, the love he has for those around him, I hope he sees that when he is old enough to watch this film,” she said.

Ortiz, who also spoke with Spectrum News, said that Perry is always sacrificing for the next generation and for the people who might be disenfranchised.

“Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story,” is now streaming on Prime Video.
