LOS ANGELES — Acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson returns to the big screen with his new film, “Asteroid City.”

Set in 1955, Asteroid City welcomes science students known as Junior Stargazers to display their inventions, but the city’s most famous attraction is a meteor crater and an observatory. In the city’s backyard, atomic tests can be seen.

Amid the celebrations, Asteroid City gets an expected visitor — an alien, leading to a city lockdown.

The film examines complex family relationships, new romances, parents and children, secrets, discoveries and outwitting adults.

Adrien Brody and Jeffrey Wright have previously worked with Anderson. They told Spectrum News that, first and foremost, Anderson’s invitation keeps them coming back to a specifically chosen place with unique stories.

Anderson, who has developed a devoted following over the years, has a long list of credits — but what if someone has never seen any of his films? What films would Brody and Wright recommend people watch?

“So many of his films are wonderful,” said Brody. "'The Royal Tenenbaums' is such a classic. I love ‘Rushmore.’ ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ is very near and dear to my heart. That was the first film I worked with Wes on many years ago. ‘Bottle Rocket’ is fantastic. It would have to be a Wes marathon.”

In the film, there is a spur-of-the-moment dance scene between Maya Hawke and Rupert Friend. The two actors told Spectrum News they are not natural-born dancers. And for Friend, it usually takes some tequila to get his feet moving.

“We didn’t rehearse it, and we didn’t choreograph it," he said. "I think Wes did that deliberately. It is supposed to be a spur-of-the-moment expression of joy. What he got was exuberant and beautiful."

The film is filled with star power, also featuring Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Matt Dillon, Hope Davis and Stephen Park.
