LOS ANGELES — Founded in 2013 by actor Nic Novicki, the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge gives aspiring filmmakers from around the world one weekend to produce a finished film on a theme.

There are more than 61 million people with a disability in the U.S. According to a Nielsen study released in 2022, non-disabled actors play about 95% of character roles with disabilities in Hollywood.

The 2023 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge opens for registration Jan. 21, with the competition to be held March 28 to April 2. The awards ceremony will be held May 4 at Sony Pictures Studios.
