Cue the horses! Stage and TV veteran Sally Struthers is appearing as Frau Blucher in “Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein” at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Much like the monster at the heart of the musical, played by the towering Trent Mills, this show has been revived and reinvented, using the format of the London version but with the original sets and dazzling choreography from Broadway.
Struthers described Mel Brooks as “equal parts Borscht Belt comic and insane” and says the show is full of so much hilarity that audiences will probably miss a few jokes, “because you’re doubled over with laughter.”
Which, for the record, is her favorite sound in the world.
“From the time I was able to walk and say a few words, my whole aim in life was to make people laugh,” she said. “And when I hear other people laugh, and I know that some silly face I’ve made or some line reading causes them to double over, I’m transported to heaven. That’s my thing. Laughter.”
“Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein” will run at La Mirada Theatre through Oct. 9.
