The White House announced Tuesday that President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will host a performance by Elton John on Friday evening on the South Lawn.

According to the White House, the event “will celebrate the unifying and healing power of music, commend the life and work of Sir Elton John, and honor the everyday history-makers in the audience, including teachers, nurses, frontline workers, mental health advocates, students, LGBTQ+ advocates and more.”

It’s called “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme” and is being produced in collaboration with A+E Networks and The History Channel. The president and first lady will speak at the event.

Workers have been erecting a large stage on the South Lawn to prepare for the concert.

Although stars like John had steered clear of the White House while President Donald Trump was in office, Biden has occasionally featured musical guests. Most recently, James Taylor played a few songs at last week's event commemorating the passage of legislation that tackles prescription drug prices, climate change and other issues.

John, now 75, announced in 2018 he was embarking on one final tour, the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.” The tour, which was paused two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to conclude next summer.
