EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Sian Heder's new Apple TV+ film "CODA" follows a young aspiring singer who is the only hearing person in her deaf family.
On "The LA Times Envelope Roundtable" on Spectrum News 1, Heder opens up to host Mark Olsen about collaborating with deaf people during the production process.
"I think whenever you're coming in as an outsider to a community that's not your own and particularly a community that's been underrepresented and misrepresented for so long, I think I felt a really incredible responsibility that if I was going to do it, I had to do it right," Heder said.
The roundtable also features directors Kenneth Branagh, Reinaldo Marcus Green, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Adam McKay and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Click the arrow above to see Heder discuss her film.
