PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (CNS) — Jennifer Hudson will be honored with the Chairman's Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards for her performance in "Respect," festival organizers announced Monday.
The award will be presented in person on Jan. 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will kick off the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which will run through Jan. 17.

Hudson is a two-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Academy Award-winning actress and an Emmy Award-winning producer. Hudson's breakout role as Effie in the movie "Dreamgirls" won her a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA and an NAACP Image Award.
"Respect" follows the story of Aretha Franklin's career from her childhood beginnings singing in a church choir to her rise to international stardom. Hudson was also an executive producer of the film.
