“This is Us” star Jon Huertas heads to the big screen to play a violent crime specialist who sets out to solve the mystery of who is killing students on a college campus in “Initiation."
- In “Initiation,” which takes place during a university’s pledge week, carefree partying turns deadly serious when a star athlete is found impaled in his dorm. The murder ignites a spree of sinister social media messages, sweeping the students and police into a nail-biting search to find the killer. They unexpectedly uncover the truth behind the school’s dark secret, and the horrifying meaning of a recurring symbol: a single exclamation mark.
- The film also stars Isabella Gome, Lindsay LaVanchy, Froy Gutierrez, Gattlin Griffith and Lochlyn Munro.
- Huertas does double duty as actor and producer for “Initiation.” He also directed “This is Us” this season and is scheduled to direct others, which he’s excited about. He says he looks forward to directing more because there’s not a lot of Latinx talent behind the cameras.
- Although he always had an interest in performing, after high school Huertas enlisted in the United States Air Force as a paratrooper. During his four years in the military, Huertas participated in two major combat missions: The United States' invasion of Panama in 1989, and then 1991's Operation Desert Storm.
